TRY ICE-FISHING
Fishing could be our province’s official sport. In the colder months, locals like to spend the day ice-fishing in one of our many lakes. Did you know that Saskatchewan has over 10,000 bodies of water in the area? With these lakes frozen for up to six months in a year, locals make the most of the weather and indulge in some world-renowned fishing.
A number of species of fish – pike, trout, walleye, perch, and Arctic grayling are common varieties in the province. There are many lakes within a short driving distance from the city, such as Last Mountain Lake or lakes in the Qu’Appelle Valley. It is easy to rent gear for the day if you would like to make it a solo trip or hire a guide to take you into all the best, hidden gems!
SNOW TUBING - BETTER THAN TOBOGGANING
If you don’t fancy downhill skiing, you might enjoy another Canadian pastime – snow tubing! Saskatoon's Optimist Hill Snow Park, located within Diefenbaker Park, offers a full range of outdoor recreational activities and is one of the top spots for this sport. This fun outdoor activity is easy to make plans for and will be the highlight of your family vacation. COVID-19 guidelines are in place for this winter to keep you and your family safe.
TRY KICK SLEDDING
If you’re like most Canadians living in big cities, you may not have heard of this activity. It is most similar to cross-country skiing but offers more stability. Most commonly used on compacted snow and ice, these sleds make for some great cardio exercise. Pick up a new skill and learn more about this fun-filled way to get around! These sleds can be rented for the day at Archibald Park, Kinsmen Park, or the Pest Hill area. This one is sure to be enjoyed by the whole family!
