As nature awakens, join us for an informative tour through the park's wooded trails, where we'll find budding trees and early spring blooms; the first signs of the changing season.
Location: Bud Miller All Seasons Park, Lloydminster, AB. Time: 2-4 pm; Saturday, April 26th, 2025 Tickets: (limited availability) ???? Early Bird: $35 (until March 31) ???? General Admission: $40/ person, or free for children under 12 (must be accompanied by an adult) ???? Loyalty Pricing: Attended a Ladybird Plant Walk this year? We're excited to see you again! Returning attendees will recieve $5 off their ticket price (including early bird pricing).
Led by Mackenzie Laurin of The Ladybird Company, certified horticulturist and experienced herbalist, this 2-hour walk will highlight local and native plant species, exploring their ecological niches, as well as their medicinal and culinary value. Special focus will be on plant species best harvested in the spring, such as spruce, willow, and poplar. A brief demonstration will be given showing how to harvest the invaluable inner bark of young poplar shoots.
During our walk, we will identify several key species and discuss: - Common and latin names - What’s in a name? (How storytelling and mythos can help us achieve a deeper understanding.) - Tricks for identification - Ecological niches - Ecological importance - Native pollinators, particularly wild bees, and the early blooming plants that are necessary for their survival. - Historic and cultural importance - Medicinal and/or culinary value - Sustainable harvesting
Participants will receive a small goody bag, a printout, and a drink to enjoy during the walk.
Spots are limited to just 15 participants, so be sure to reserve your spot early! Participants must pre-register by messaging The Ladybird Company facebook page. Registration closes April 20th.
* In the advent of bad weather (i.e. heavy rain), this event will be rescheduled. Participants who cannot make it to the new date will receive a full refund.
